Every cut is a wound the tree has to close, so good pruning takes only what it needs to, and leaves the tree safer and better built. We prune to get limbs off the roof and away from the lines, take dead and weak wood out before it falls on something, and raise limbs over the drive and the road so trucks and boats on trailers clear them.
We also prune trees that have grown toward power lines. Jacob coordinates with the utility, which clears the wood within 10 feet of the line, and our crew does the rest.
On the lake, a lot of pruning is about the view. We prune selectively and raise the lower limbs, so you get the view back and keep a healthy tree.
We do not top trees. Cutting the top off leaves the tree weak where it was cut, and it grows back thicker than before, so the view closes up again and the new limbs break easier.
Limbs over a roof or the water are roped down instead of dropped. The brush goes through the chipper, and the yard is raked before we leave.
Pruning a Tree You Want to Keep
Jacob is an ISA Certified Arborist, and we prune to the ANSI A300 pruning standards. Each cut is made just outside the branch collar, the swell where the limb joins, so the tree can seal the wound. If a limb is split or too heavy for its fork, he may suggest a cable instead of taking it off. See Tree Cabling.
What's Included

What Changes the Price
Trimming is priced by how tall the tree is, how much wood comes out, and what is under the limbs. Several trees on one visit cost less each than separate trips.

Questions People Ask
When is the best time to prune?
Dead and broken limbs should come out as soon as you see them. For live limbs, timing matters for some trees: oaks in Missouri should not be pruned from spring into midsummer, when the beetles that spread oak wilt are out. Late summer through winter is safer, and the dormant season is best. Jacob will tell you when your trees should be done.
