Tree Care for Lake Houses

Lake house trees shade the house, hold the hillside and frame the view. They also hang over roofs, decks and docks, on lots that drop toward the water.

  1. Opening Up the View Without Topping

Topping a tree to get the lake back makes it grow back thicker and leaves it weak. We prune selectively and raise the lower limbs instead, so you get the view and keep the tree.

On a lake lot the trees also shade the house and hold the hillside, so keeping them healthy is usually worth more than the bit of view a removal would add.

If a tree has to come out for the view, we tell you that and price it separately.

  2. Limbs Over the Roof, the Deck and the Dock

On a lake lot there is usually something under every limb. We climb, cut in pieces and lower them on a rope so nothing lands on the roof, the deck or the boat lift.

  3. Steep Lots

A lot that falls away toward the water changes how a tree comes down. Wood can't just be dropped and dragged out, so it is lowered and carried, and that is part of the price we give you up front.

  4. Where Your Property Ends

Around Table Rock most lake houses stop short of the water. The strip along the shore belongs to the Corps of Engineers, and cutting or trimming there takes a Corps permit, which the Corps prefers the homeowner request. We work with the Corps, find the markers with you before we cut anything below the house, and tell you what to ask for.

Seasonal Lake House Tree Check

Twice a year, in April before the season and again in October or November after it, we walk the lot while you are away. We check the limbs over the roof, the deck, the hot tub and the dock for dead wood and anything rubbing or leaning. You get dated photos of each tree, with a price for anything that needs doing.

Nothing gets cut until you approve it.

When You're Away

  1. 1

    Jacob Goes Out

Send the address and the gate code. Jacob goes out and looks at the trees, with you there or not.

  2. 2

    Approve by Text

You get a written estimate and pick a date. Nobody has to be home for the work.

  3. 3

    See It Done

Before and after photos from the same spots when the crew leaves, so you know the yard is clean.

Questions

Can you trim the trees between my house and the water?

Often, but it depends where your property ends. On Corps land along Table Rock, trimming needs a permit and some trees cannot be cut at all. We find the line first and tell you what we can do.

Do I need to be there?

No. Send the address and the gate code. Jacob goes out, you approve the estimate, and we send photos of the finished work.
